Sri S. Shankar

A disciple of Smt.Vallabham Kalyana Sundaram, Sri Shankar is one of the leading Carnatic musicians of the younger generation. Endowed with a sturdy voice, the effortlessness of his singing touches the listener's heart. His repertoire is rich and vast as is evident from his command over the languages of Telugu, Kannada, Tamil, Hindi and Sanskrit in which he sings.

His Jugalbandi performances have elicited the admiration of 'rasikas'
(connoisseur). He has recorded many cassettes under the auspices of the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavana and other institutions.

He is a Grade-A artist of the AIR and has been invited to participate in the music conferences held at Bangalore. He has also performed under the auspices of the Music Academy of Madras and has participated in the SAARC Music Festival.

Apart from his many concerts in India, he conducted a workshop on Carnatic music for the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavana in London and also gave concerts there.

He was awarded the H.Puttachar Memorial Pre-Parangath Prashasthi (award) by the Percussive arts centre, Bangalore in 1995.
