Rudrapatnam Srikantan Ramakanth hails from a distinguished family of musicians, familiarly known as R.K. Family from the village of Rudrapatna in Hassan district of Karnataka.

He took to Carnatic music at a very tender age of eight and his initial training in music was from his distinguished musician-father Sri. R.K. Srikantan, a well known exponent of Carnatic music in India and later from his uncle Sri. R.K. Venkataramasastry, a well known violinist.

Provided with rich, reedy and flexible voice, profound imagination and traditional style of singing, Sri Ramakanth has already a string of successful public concerts to his credit in many of the leading sabhas in India.

An M.Sc. in Botany, Ramakanth has participated in the Dasara Music festival conducted by the Govt. of Karnataka, undertaken several tours to U.K., Swiss in 1989 and Australia during 1990 through 1992. He was invited by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, London to give benefit concert which won him a wide acclaim.

He has also performed in many leading sabhas like Bangalore Gayana Samaja, Bangalore ; Music Academy, Madras ; Indian Fine Arts Society, Madras ; Music Club, Delhi ; Sadguru Sangeetha Sabha, Kerala ; Vijayakala Bharati, Andhra Pradesh ; Rasika Ranjana Sabha, Calcutta.

He has been recently selected by International Biographical of Cambridge and American Biographical Society for inclusion in the international Who's (International Youth achievement). He was honoured in the International Year of Youth (1985) by the confederation of 3 music institutions Saraswati Ganashabha, Stuti Soundarya and Sripuram Cultural Association and was given the title Sangeetha Kala Praveena. He has also won the Best Musician Award by Bangalore Gayana Samaja in 1975 and by Music Academy in 1993.

He also established Vidwan R.K. Srikantan Trust in 1995. Under this Trust, every year, activities like Annual Music Festivals featuring both young and senior musicians, lecture demonstrations, publishing of informative monographs on music are being conducted with the help of public patronage. He only hopes that this would continue to inspire him to serve classical Carnatic music's cause still better if the Trust gets liberal financial support from music lovers both from India and abroad.
