Sri T.N. RAMESH Tumkur Nagaraj Ramesh (T.N.Ramesh) was born in Bangalore on 07-05-1955 and hails from a music family. He started learning Mridangam at the tender age of nine from Sri T.A.S.Mani (1964). He was encouraged by his parents Sri T.V. Nagaraju and Smt. T.N. Lakshmi. |

He completed the Junior exam in 1966, Senior in 1968
and secured 1st Rank in Vidwath in 1974. In between, he also won the Mridangam endowment
prize of late Sri H.Puttachar in 1971. On the academic front, he is a B.Sc. degree holder
from Bangalore University. Sri Ramesh, apart from Mridangam, plays other percussion instruments like Ghatam, Dolak etc. He gave his first performance at the young age of 14, accompanying reknowned vocalist Sri.T.K.Ramamurthy. In his long concert career of more than 30 years, he has accompanied eminent artists, who form the virtual who's who of Carnatic Music like Veena Doraiswamy Iyengar, Bellary Brothers, R.K.Srikantan, Balamurali Krishna, D.K.Pattammal, Bombay Sisters, Maharajapuram Santhanam, T.R.Subramanyam, T.N.Sheshagopalan, T.V.Shankaranarayanan, Mandolin U.Srinivas and others. |
| His International assignments started in
1978 with a visit to England with Sri Vemu Mukunda. He has participated in the following music programmes abroad since then : 1980 - Participated with Karnataka College of Percussion (KCP) in the International Music Festival in England, Germany and Switzerland sponsored by ICCR. 1983 - Toured Canada, America, Scotland and Switzerland to participate in the International Music Festival with KCP, sponsored by ICCR. 1986 - South Asian Music Festival at Hongkong, sponsored by ICCR. 1988 - Concert Tour with Sri.T.A.S.Mani and Smt.R.A.Ramamani to Netherlands, Germany and France alongwith Chris Hinze of Keytone Productions. 1991 - Continued to participate in the Concert Tour with Sri.Mani and Smt.Ramamani and toured Germany, Belgium and France. 1993 - Participated with KCP in a prestigious Music Festival at Perth (Australia). 1995 - Participated with Sri.T.A.S.Mani in a Music Festival at Brazil (South America). He has also accompanied famous foreign musicians like Maynard Ferguson (USA), Charlie Mariyano (USA), Chris Hinze (Holland), Embryo Troupe and Exil Productions of Germany in many concerts, thus contributing to the blending of music of East with that of West. Sri.Ramesh is a well known face in music circles all over our country too and has participated in music festivals of many famous organisations. He is a "B"-high grade artist in both Mridangam and Ghatam. He has performed in the National Programme on AIR and also has many programmes on Doordarshan to his credit. He also teaches Mridangam and is guiding many students under his care.
